As an artist, a designer, and now an entrepreneur, founder of My Batik Magazine and TMS Art Center, Emilia Tan rides the green wave.

Her visits to various countries such as Germany, Poland, United kingdom, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, USA, Australia, China and some Asian countries led her to coming up with nature-themed paintings. “Wherever you go, it’s green; as an artist, you have to reflect what people are thinking. You have to transform yourself and go through the same issues that society is going through. All major artists have been a reflection of the times,” says Emilia Tan.

Emilia Tan’s art works and paintings were spotted by a member of the Environmental Community Organisation (ECO), BECOME 6 months ago. BECOME is an ECO bag producer which uses recyclable materials to produce bags. Its eco-friendly bags are created to inspire consumers to think about environmental preservation and recycling apart from creating awareness of the importance of GOING GREEN and saving the earth from environment issues that are currently plaguing Earth such as Global Warning, Black Hole and Acid Rain.

The patterns in Emilia’s artwork have been inspired by her travels around the world. “There are some parts of the world where people have a lot less than Western countries, and the whole philosophy of recycling and reusing is an integral part of their lives,” she says. “I wanted to bring the two worlds together by selecting Eastern leaves on European backdrops of richly patterned designs and colour palettes.” Hence the idea of incorporating artistic nature-themed paintings on bags.

Both Emilia Tan & BECOME will team up and participate in the ECO-FRIENDLY WEEK which will be held at 1 Utama Shopping Centre from today untill 18th July 2009.
