Dear all,
Thank you for your prayers and supports thus far.
I just came back from Sunway Medical Center visiting my sister, Jane Tan. Today is her 2nd Che-mo therapahy treatment.
It wasn’t going so well due to the grossly negligence on the part of the hospital but thank God that everything is within control. What happened was since today is Saturday, their oncology medical department just operating half day (this is within the knowledge of all the staffs of hospital). When she arrived at 9am, the directed her to be be warded first and ample time has been wasted for blood testing and waiting for the report to be out.
When she is ready for the chemo therapy, the ontology department already closed and they kept her in the ward and due to the lack of doctor on saturday. They sent a nurse to perform injection of IV Kytil 3mg bolus (ie. like a pain killer) followed by IV Norvel Saline 0.9% at infusion rate 25ml/hour (ie. salt water). After several reminders there wasn’t any doctor to administer the ABVD (ie. Chemo) and a long wait of 2 hours. Thank God that my younger sister, who is a registered pharmacy, Cynthia was around and according to her, the chemo theraphy has to be started within half an hour after IV Kytil and IV Norvel Saline is administered.
After much complaints, a Medical Officer came to do the 1st chemo, drug ie. Doxorubicin 25mg bolus and the administration was done badly and the machine kept alarming. Subsequently the administration of the another 3 chemo drugs was done by an unexperienced nurse and Cynthia found that it was the drug was infused into her body WRONGLY! Instead of half and hour, she sat the wrong infusion at 2 hours! (According to Cynthia, thank God the infusion timing was sat lower instead of faster because if it is faster, the effect is far reaching and it will endanger Jane Tan’s life!!)
I arrived hospital at around 9pm and I witnessed how terrible was the service as after the whole chemotherapy was completed, they took their own sweet time to remove the chemo plot from her despite our various request and reminder due to no doctor was around and the only TWO doctor is in emergency department. After a long wait of 45min, one doctor came unwillingly and being very rude to us.
We are totally disappointed and shocked as to what has happened and I have no choice but to lodge a complaint against the gross negligence caused by the hospital.
I thank you for your prayers thus far because without your prayers I believe worst thing may happen. Imaging if Cynthia wasn’t around today (It was not arranged as we plan to go at night after Jane completed her chemo therapy. Somehow she just turned out to be there at the right timing!)
It may be a long and boring mail because a lot of technical words, believe me, I learnt all that today by drafting the letter of complaint. It is good to have certain general knowledge because we can’t really trust anyone nowadays except OUR MIGHTY GOD who is in control of everything!!!!
Thank you for walking with me through this journey of trials. I appreciate it and our family would like to extend our greatest appreciation and thanks to your prayers and supports.
Warmest Regards,
Cecilia Tan
